Are you prepared?

We have been advised by the first presidency of the church to be prepared.

"Our Heavenly Father created this beautiful earth, with all its abundance, for our benefit and use. His purpose is to provide for our needs as we walk in faith and obedience. He has lovingly commanded us to “prepare every needful thing” (see D&C 109:8) so that, should adversity come, we can care for ourselves and our neighbors and support bishops as they care for others."

"We encourage members world-wide to prepare for adversity in life by having a basic supply of food and water and some money in savings."

Our ward has been working hard at this. We have been challenged to start with a 3 month supply of life sustaining basics: oats, beans, rice, and nonfat dry milk. The goal is to continue to add more items and then to eventually have a year supply. Many people in our ward already have a full year, but if you rotate your food, you need to continue to restock. We are meeting once a month to work on canning different items. We chose to add some sugar, macaroni noodles, white beans, and pancake mix to our food storage. It is motivating to get it done when you work together as a ward.

Randy and Spencer drove to Louisiana today with some friends to go to the BYU game, and Gabs was at a friends house, so it was just me and the littles. They were good little workers until they got distracted and ran off to play with the other kids. Luckily, I had a lot of different people step in and help me out. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning!

Till we do it again next month!

That is so cool! I am really impressed that your ward is so dedicated to this. It sometimes feels like such a monstrous task but really it's about little bits here and there and the peace of mind that comes with it.

Go Carrie! And go BYU!

I am so proud of you. It is really important to follow our leaders on this matter. It is more blessed to give than to depend on others to give to you in times of need. Someone remarked that if a pandemic came we might have to be confined to our homes for weeks, so preparedness is not just for tornados or hurricanes or earthquakes! It is for every contingency. Follow our leaders and we will be blessed. Congratulations! Keep it up.
