Time Out for Women

This happened in October and I wanted to make sure I still blogged about it. A group of ladies from church and I attended Time Out for Women on a Friday night and Saturday day. They had several speakers and a few musicians that shared their testimonies and words of encouragement. It was an inspiring weekend to say the least. Here we are sporting our cute bags that they were handing out at the door when we got there. From left to right we have Heather, Ruth, Karie, Gail, Kimberly, Pricilla, and me. I'm always the shortest. I need to start wearing heels.

The woman on the right is an AMAZING woman who has been through unspeakable trials during the war going on in Africa. She witnessed both of her parents murdered and her sister losing her hands. She is the only one still living in her family of 5. She told her incredible story of how she found the church and came to America. It really put all that we take for granted into perspective.

I had the Relief Society sister over to watch a documentary about her life during the day last week. She also has a book. We have all been greatly touched by her story.

Raised in a country ravaged by civil war, Mariama Kallon narrowly escaped torture by murderous rebel forces. After losing her entire family and everything she owned, she was guided to safety as she found refuge with a Latter-day Saint family in her native Sierra Leone. Touched by the teachings of the Restoration, and full of gratitude for all the Lord had done for her, Mariama wanted to wear her own missionary nametag. With barely a single change of clothes and a Church-sent hygiene kit as her only worldly possessions, she made the trek to the United States and began a full-time mission on Temple Square.

Delivered By Hope tells the true story of Mariama Kallon's remarkable journey, as she was led by the Lord from war-torn West Africa to a new life in a new land.
Another exciting highlight about my weekend was running into these ladies...........................

These are girls that I knew when I was a young teen. We were all together in Beehives and on up. I was so excited!!!!!! We have alot of memories. We decided to meet for dinner the next month and so we did.

With one of the girls unable to come and another that lives in the area, Susan was replaced with Lindi. I can't tell you what a kick it was to spend some time with these girls. I am surprised they even put up with us at the restaurant. We all couldn't stop laughing! I can't wait to get together again and hopefully some more of our group that still live in Georgia can come too. Do you recognize these girls, Mom?
