For those of you who know Spencer, you know that he is not too keen on being the center of attention and would really rather not have any attention towards him at all, SO having a surprise 16th birthday party was probably not the best idea, BUT, it is his 16th and Randy and I wanted him to know how many people love him and would want to celebrate with him, so we took a chance. To make a very long story short, Spencer almost found out, that is, when Spencer asked his buddy to spend the night with him for his birthday, his friend said, " I thought it was a surprise!" We tried to remedy it by telling Spencer that Dad called a few of his friends to surprise him, not that there was a full blown party planned. When Spencer came downstairs, he saw the decorations and grumbled, "What did you do that for?" He thought we decorated for his small get together with just a few boys. He was annoyed that we were making it into a big deal. A second later, everyone jumped out of the dance room and yelled, "SURPRISE!" He was shocked and was not really loving it, but as the party went on, he had a great time. Sometimes you just have to force things on your kids. Isn't that a nice way of putting it?

One day my house will be full of older kids like that. Oh no, I don't want to think about it.
Sarah's friends threw her a surprise party last year and as much as she loved it she made me PROMISE her that she wouldn't have one this year. I think it must have something to do with being the center of attention. It looks like it was fun though. Cute bunch of kids!
Looks like a very fun party. I once had a gym teacher who put me in the center of the gym and they sang happy birthday to me. I was mortified and ran into the bathroom and cried and couldn't come out again! 7th grade. Ugh. Still embarrassing.
Hurray for Spencer!
